About the Actions Plans and the Aged Care Diversity Framework

The Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP (Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Health) established an Aged Care Sector Committee Diversity Sub-Group. This group will advise the Government on the development of the Aged Care Diversity Framework. As part of this Framework there will be three Action Plans.

The sub-group will develop initial action plans for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD backgrounds) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) elders. With the Framework providing overarching guidance, the individual action plans will focus on each group’s particular needs.

To ensure that the Action Plan reflects and meets the needs of LGBTI elders, recognising that each of L,G,B,T and I have unique and overlapping needs as well as the impact of other diversities (e.g. being Aboriginal or having a disability) the National LGBTI Health Alliance are holding consultations across Australia.

Consultations will be held across Australia in every state and territory between 12 September and 31 December, when the consultation process will end. A draft Action Plan will be available for comment by March 2018, with the final document launched by Minister Wyatt in May 2018.
