Wingmen – a mental health support hub for gay men – is now online!

What is Wingmen?

Wingmen supports gay men to feel confident about helping each other in tough times.

The online toolkit contains expert advice, resources and an online network of support for gay men who are worried their partner or friend may have anxiety, depression or be suicidal.

Every gay man is welcome here – every gay man can be a wingman

We are proud that Wingmen recognises the diversity of gay men in our communities and we are hopeful that the Wingmen site will help give guys the backup they need when supporting their friends and loved ones.

How did Wingmen come about?

We know that gay men have been supporting each other for decades – through tough times and great times.

In 2013, our Shout Out survey of gay men revealed that 80 per cent of participants had friends who had depression while 75 per cent experienced anxiety themselves.

According to the survey, gay men felt most comfortable turning to other gay men for emotional support but many were unsure how to support their mates and worried about saying the wrong thing.

Wingmen was developed by beyondblue and the National LGBTI Health Alliance, funded by donations from the Movember Foundation.
